More about Hypnotherapy

Hypnotherapy as the name suggests means that hypnosis is used within a therapeutic framework and for therapeutic purposes to support clients to overcome their issues and achieve their goals.

My clients often describe their experience of hypnosis as  being in an enhanced state of concentration, where their focus is turned inwardly. They feel safe, secure and supported. I guide my clients using suggestions and specific therapeutic techniques that are selected to fit my clients’ needs. As a result, my clients feel confident to explore their inner world and their perceptions of their environment. They develop resources to overcome their challenges and reach their goals.

My clients have experienced that they remain in control. They are aware of their environment but are not distracted by it. They know that they can leave their hypnotic state at any time they wish and if an emergency was to happen, they would be able to attend to it.

As for my suggestions, they will only be integrated and processed by clients if these suggestions are in agreement with their own values.

In any case, I would like you to realise that you have experienced a form of hypnosis daily. Day dreaming, being completely absorbed in a movie, a book or an activity that you are performing resemble the state of mind you experience while in hypnosis: you are totally focused and involved in what you are doing, yet you are in control and aware of what is happening around you. That is a form of hypnosis.

It is not uncommon though for some clients on their first session(s) to fear that they will not be able to experience hypnosis, even if they want to or believe they want to. My advice to these clients has always been the same: relax, do not build up expectations on what they should or should not  experience, follow my suggestions and let us see what happens.

In some occasions, clients felt they could not let go and experience hypnosis. When we investigated what was going on, we discovered that there were some fears associated with hypnosis, such as fear of loosing control, or trust issues due to past events. After these were discussed and explored, clients could relax and experience hypnosis. In other cases, I simply had to make some adjustments to my approach.

Why using hypnosis within a therapeutic framework is effective?

When you are in hypnosis, your conscious mind and nervous system relaxes. This process, associated with appropriate guidance through specific therapeutic techniques and suggestions, allows clients to explore their perceptions of past events; and their relationships with their environment, other individuals and themselves. Clients, through gaining new understandings and  learnings from these exploratory journeys, can free themselves from their self-limiting beliefs, distorted thoughts and self-destructive behaviours. As a result clients  experience deep transformation and can reach their goals and even more.

“Conscious mind”

Your conscious mind refers to all the processes, the different pathways and neural connections that are stimulated in the brain when you are making a conscious decision and action.

So when you make a choice or take a decision based on your conscious thinking and reasoning,  your are using your conscious mind and your will power.

However, you have noticed that maintaining resolutions and achieving some of your goals are difficult.

This is because your conscious mind, contrary to your belief, is not in control. In fact your unconscious mind is in control.

Therefore, to make long term changes, it is important to “talk” with your unconscious mind.

” Unconscious mind”

Your unconscious mind controls 95% of your life. Most of thoughts, emotions, feelings and behaviours are the result of brain activity that is beyond your conscious awareness.

For example, you do not decide consciously to be anxious, insomniac, have a low self-esteem or have self-limiting beliefs. These are the result of unconscious processes based on past experiences that have created beliefs, ways of feeling, thinking and behaving when facing certain situations, triggers, challenges, interactions, uncertainties and so forth.

Therefore, to truly change, it is important to use the creativity of the unconscious mind to allow new pathways to be formed and wired, so that unhelpful learnt beliefs, thoughts, behaviours, feelings can be replaced by productive and constructive ones that will allow you to transform your life.
